Istanbul continued

On Monday 10 October we visited the Topkapi Palace which is absolutely magnificent. We walked there from our hotel early in the morning before it got too hot and first visited the kitchen area of the palace. It was amazing to see the countries where all the different food had been purchased from. The sugar came from one place, oils and spices from other areas and they were transported through to the palace to be used. It made me realise how lucky we are today to have our supermarkets and be able to get the fresh food that we can get. After the kitchen we looked at the meeting rooms, the treasury and all of the jewellery and special relics from the time of the sultans.
The harem where the women and young children lived was also an interesting place as well as the area where the mother of the sultan lived.

What a great time we have had in Istanbul. The hotel that we stayed at was called the Antis and it was lovely.
